Fried Modak are generally called as Talniche Modak in Marathi. It is a speciality during Ganesh festival. Fried modaks are prepared to offer to Lord Ganesha. It is a sweet dumpling filled with coconut.
There are different types of Modak that are also offered during Ganesh Chaturti that are
- Ukdiche Modak (Steamed Modak)
- Instant Coconut Modak
- Fried Modak
- Chocolate Modak
INGREDIENTS FOR FRIED MODAK
For Stuffing
- 1 cup of grated coconut
- 1 cup of granulated sugar (Pithi Sugar)
- 4-5 chopped nuts
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder (Velchi powder)
For Outer cover
- 1 whole cup of Maida/ All purpose flour or you can take both Maida and wheat flour
- 2 tbsp of hot ghee
- A pinch of salt
- 1 cup of milk
- Warm water
- Ghee for deep frying. You can also take oil for frying
How to prepare Fried Modak ?
- Grate the whole coconut and heat it for 5 minutes.
- Add the 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and stir it for 2 minutes
- After that you can add 4-5 chopped cashews or nuts into it.
- Let the mixture cool.
- Take the cup of All purpose flour and add a pinch of salt for the taste.
- Heat the ghee and add 2 spoon of ghee into the Maida and mix it well.
- Gradually add a milk to make the dough soft.
- After dough is ready add 2 teaspoon of ghee again for texture.
- Make 21 equal parts of dough and roll out a small chapati.
- Add the filling into the chapati and make the proper plates.
- The plates should be pressed properly as it will not open from the upper part.
All together 21 modaks are ready to fry. So take a pan and heat the ghee for 2 minutes and after that put the modak for frying.
Tip of the day
- Press the upper side of modak as while frying it will not open.
- Cook in the low flame while frying
- You can also prepare the cover with the Wheat flour rather than All purpose flour/Maida
