Located in the midst of Toronto, the Distillery District has its history, culture, and artsy feeling. It is one of the unique places to take a visit. Mostly, around Christmas time, there is a Christmas market with lots of goods and gift items.
After completing the exams, we were planning to visit a soothing yet amazing place to spend quality time. So, we took a visit to the Distillery District just before Christmas. We already planned to do some photography and discover around every corner.
Shop, Savor, and Stroll
The distillery district is known for its combination of fine dining and shopping. You can witness a plethora of restaurants and cafes around the corner with a diverse range of eateries. If you are a food lover, you can try every option to satisfy your taste buds.
We almost got there at 10.00 am and were very hungry, so we started our day with a delicious breakfast and a coffee for refreshment. I loved the theme of the cafe, with its amusing atmosphere and delightful dining. After refreshments, we wandered the city and explored a diverse range of art galleries, boutiques, and handmade collections of jewelry, and clothes.
While we were exploring everything, we came across a lady who was carrying lantern in one hand with a unique dressing style. So, we clicked a picture with her. She was kind enough to suggest visiting art galleries and popular restaurants to try some delicacies.
At this time, there were no entry charges, but during Christmas, they do have entry fees. Also, during that time there will be a Christmas market. The cobblestone street and the red bricks were the charm of the place. This is the perfect vintage spot for all the tourists who are in Canada.
Spirit of York – A Distillery District Gem
Spirit of York is near the entrance of the Distillery District. Their focus is crafting premium quality drinks with their locally grown grains. Richness in quality and locally produced ingredients is their main motto. It is one of the popular destinations for those who are seeking the utmost quality in their libations.
While entering, you can see the history of this restaurant on the walls and walk through the aisle to understand it. They have also provided a written guide on techniques of distillation, processing, fermentation, aging process, and collecting inside the oak barrel. The menu was very great and it was adding up with the drinks that we ordered. Sometimes, there are offers on Wine and Vodka. We ordered 3 Vodkas and one Red Wine with mouthwatering Nachos and a Pizza. It is affordable and you can have a blast with your family and loved ones.
Moreover, you can try tasting rooms that will give you ideal knowledge on purchasing premium quality spirits. The usual timings of visiting the Distillery District are from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm but can differ on occasions.
Local shops to Wander
After savoring, we continued our walk in the district while, there was one particular shop that caught our eyes, Bergo Designs. This shop was full of uniquely designed products like, kitchen tools, recyclable products, wall clocks, digital clocks, storage, arts & crafts, women’s accessories, and many more. There were many products at affordable ranges and varied collectible pieces of art.
Art Galleries in Distillery District
Beyond the cobblestone pathways and preserved Victorian architecture, the district pulsates with a unique artistic spirit housing a collection of captivating galleries that weave tales of creativity and imagination.
We have been to two art galleries one is an Arta gallery and the other one is a Corkin gallery. Both were amazing and beautiful with lots of stories behind the portrait. There were woven stories, small art and crafts, childhood story paintings, under the stars, and many more. Every artist’s name was written with the paintings and the price tag along with it.
Every painting describes its own story with the vibrant colors of explosion and the brushwork that defines the great masterpiece. The artist plays with its brushstrokes to invite the viewers and make them understand the emotion behind this centerpiece.
Glimpses of the streets
As Christmas drew near, people were excited and a spirit of joy enveloped the Distillery district. The street was decked with twinkling lights all over the place and it was mesmerizing to wander around as the sun dipped.
This wheel was in the middle of the street with the carvings on it. Every carving symbolizes spiritual traditions in the world. There were many symbols carved on these representing every kind of culture and tradition across the world.
As my exploration comes to an end,I will always cherish the beauty of Distillery District in my memory until the next visit. Do share your thoughts and experiences via comments. Au revoir !! See you soon in my next blog.
Excellent Work…Hope you have enjoyed your visit❤️
